Deorbit as a Service
End-of-life deorbit delivered as a managed service.
Our service deorbits, refuels, repairs, or moves satellites to a new orbit
American satellite prime contractor. Flight-proven platform. You buy the mission you want, not our spacecraft.
$24M award from the Defense Innovation Unit and the Space Development Agency to deliver Deorbit as a Service. D-Orbit Space is prime contractor.
Read MoreMission record of the ION platform, flown by the D-Orbit group. D-Orbit Space, Inc. is the United States entity, and brings that platform — and that operating experience — to U.S. government and commercial customers as an American prime.
Deorbit is bought for very different reasons depending on who is buying. The service is the same. The primary reason to deorbit is not.
“I have dead satellites I cannot move, right now.”
A failed satellite does not cooperate. It may be tumbling. It was not designed to be captured. We solve this.
“I need to deorbit one of my satellites safely to meet all national and international requirements.”
The FCC currently requires a very high level of assurance that constellation satellites will deorbit at the end of their mission. Constellation vendors can meet this requirement by putting a deorbit contract in place with D-Orbit Space for any satellites that do not deorbit by themselves.
“It’s too expensive to deorbit my satellite.”
We have optimized our design to minimize the cost per deorbit of each target satellite.
Locate and characterize the target satellite, including ones that are no longer communicating.
Rendezvous and dock with a target that is tumbling and uncooperative.
Capture and secure an object that was never designed to be grappled, docked, or serviced.
Deorbit your satellite, reposition your satellite, or extend your satellite’s working life.
End-of-life deorbit delivered as a managed service.
Add working years to an asset already on orbit, rather than replacing it ahead of schedule.
Move a spacecraft to a new slot, plane, or altitude without spending its own propellant budget.
Close-proximity imaging and characterization of a satellite you need to understand.
Fly a payload on an ION carrier. Three carriers are in our Boulder facility today.
American payloads integrated onto ION in our Boulder clean room before shipment to the launch site.
Where this goes. High-resolution space intelligence and space domain awareness payloads can be hosted on the same platform. GEO operations and on-orbit refueling are on the roadmap.
D-Orbit Space is an American company: a prime contractor on its own missions, engineering and building the next-generation ION carrier in Boulder to meet U.S. government requirements.
Four-meter Mantis capture mechanism for securing objects on orbit.
Rendezvous and proximity operations payload with autonomous capability.
D-Orbit Space, Inc. is prime contractor on the DIU and SDA Deorbit as a Service effort, and performs design, spacecraft, tug, platform, assembly, integration, test and mission operations in house.
Tell us the mission and the date you have to meet. We will tell you what it takes to accomplish it — and reserve the capacity to do it.
